Project 4: Social Media Book

My social media booklet is called “PARIS140” and is a collection of tweets I posted during my time in Paris last semester. It’s accompanied by photos I took of some of my favorite street art in the city - to stay aligned with the “social media” component of the project, I downloaded all of the photos from my facebook instead of using the original files I have saved on my computer. This has created a kind of gritty resolution, which echoes the “grittiness” of the streets. For a majority of the pages, the photos were taken the same day that I posted the accompanying tweet. Some of the artists featured in my photos are well known, like Space Invader and M. Chat, and others are ones that I’d seen around the city, but was never able to find the artist’s name… while they are all artists I love and respect, the anonymity of some of the artists speaks to how I still have a lot to learn about the city. The color scheme is based on Twitter itself, as well as the photo I used for the cover. I tried to encompass more of the positive elements of my trip, choosing tweets from memorable events. The tweets are also in chronological order, showing the progression of my time abroad.

Week 15 post 2

I don’t watch a lot of these shows but for the ones I do, this is awesome! I love the use of simple shapes to convey important parts of the shows.

Find an example of Postmodern design. Explain why it qualifies as “postmodern.”This is postmodern because it plays with typefaces, uses images provocatively, has a simple color palette, and uses shapes to add meaning.

Find a piece of poorly designed information and explain why it is poorly designed
This is a poster in Norlin Library that is intended to help students find resources using their smartphones. The main element of the design is a series of QR codes for each resource students may need. However, it is a type of QR code that needs a very specific application to read… the poster says how to download the application but it is incredibly small and in the bottom corner. It doesn’t give students without the application any alternative way of using the same resources, such as a URL they could type into their mobile browsers. *I apologize for the wonderfully terrible quality of my cell phone… which, for the record, does not have a QR app on it
